In Pictures

Last week of February saw UAE receiving heavy rains . These rains led the Dubai Police register some 170 traffic accidents on Sunday, the 28th of February 2010. Rescue teams were made in Dubai, Sharjah and Ras Alkhaima that worked round the clock to clear roads and help stranded motorists.Take a look ....


Global Village remained closed for a day in the wake of heavy rains. A woman died in hospital as a wooden part from the Indian pavilion fell becuase heavy winds.


Lucky to be on top! Some residents of Sharjah were trapped in their homes.

Vehicles were used as stepping stone by many.


Self help, always a good idea.


Schools had to be closed. Some reached home after more than two hours.


Majority of home owners and businesses do not take out insurance.

Basic motor insurance does not cover flood damage.


This road turned into a river.

  1. really good pictures.poeple used carrefour trolleys to ferry shoppers from the sharjah city center through underground padestrian crossings, as it was full of water.each one costing 5-10 dhs.

  2. yesterday in express news there was a report on public torture by police.who were the video takers. not humans ? how could they survive listening to those cries and witness scene of crime? why could not they stop them?or are we as a nation or as human beings become so selfish.?or may be job security is more important.
    greatly disturbed i am

  3. Bushra, you have raised a very important issue.It has been brought to light often in our part of the world.

    Job security might be an issue but where some say that the journalists are selfish as they try to surpass each other in getting "exclusive" pictures for their organisations, there are others who feel that by capturing the spur they are fulfilling their obligation to society.

    What is the journalists job? Saving the life or bringing things before public. A tough one to answer.
